ZIMBABWE professional golfer Brendon de Jonge marked his best finish in a Major when he finished tied 28th in the US Open at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina over the weekend.
De Jonge, who turned professional in 2003, was in good position for a greater part of the 114th US Open, which was won by German ace Martin Kaymer who blew the field away for an eight-stroke triumph.
The burly Zimbabwean golfer spent the first three rounds in the top 10 but his 76 on the final round saw him plunge into 28th place.
De Jonge tied with Americans Daniel Berger, Kenny Perry and Phil Milkelson and Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell.
The Zimbabwean ace is now ranked 75 in the Fedex Cup Points and 78th in the world and this represented his 16th cut of the season in 21 attempts.
For his fine efforts De Jonge went home US$59 588 richer, not bad for a four-day job.
It was the second time that he has finished in 28th place having finished in that position at the Memorial Tournament last month.
With a single top 10 finish at the Wells Fargo, played at his adopted home in Charlotte, De Jonge is still looking for his break-through win on the US PGA tour.
In the Sunshine Tour Ryan Cairns continued with his fine form when he finished tied on fourth place in the Tour Partners Pro-Am tournament at Brynston Country Club in South Africa at the weekend.
