Visual artist Brendon Tylor The Artist has relocated to the resort city of Victoria Falls from Bulawayo, where he has released a captivating four-piece charcoal drawing series titled My Journey (Rwendo RewArtist), a project that culminates with an appreciation portrait of businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
The collection features detailed charcoal renderings of a leopard, elephant, lioness, and Chivayo, symbolising strength, resilience, and generosity.
Brendon Tylor said the move to Victoria Falls was both a personal and artistic decision meant to sharpen his creative focus and uplift his family.
“I moved to the Falls to fully submit my mind to my craft and expand my skill through new engagements. Part of the decision was also to move away from seeing my mother struggle to provide for me and my two young nieces.
“The trip to Vic Falls has been therapy for my mind, allowing me to focus on my art,” he said.
He described My Journey as a spiritual and emotional process that took two months of dedicated work.
“Every stroke of the pencil carried meaning. The best part was giving undivided attention to the smallest details. The appreciation portrait for Sir Wicknell Chivayo was the final piece that completed the project,” said Brendon Tylor.
The artist said his work celebrates Zimbabwe’s natural beauty and Chivayo’s humanitarian contributions, which have impacted many lives across the country.
“As mwana wevhu, I wanted to express my appreciation for both our wildlife heritage and Sir Wicknell’s unmatched generosity. This project is my way of speaking to the community and beyond our borders through art,” he added. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
