A BULAWAYO man was bricked on the forehead by a younger rival and later died in hospital in fight over a girlfriend.

Brian Moyo (25) of Clark Road, Suburbs, has been arrested for murder following the death of Phumulani Moyo (38), who was struck unconscious during the altercation on 11 July 2025. The incident allegedly stemmed from a heated dispute over a woman.

In a statement, Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu confirmed the development.
“Police confirm the arrest of Brian Moyo, a male adult aged 25 years of Clark Road, Suburbs, Bulawayo,” she said.
“On the 11th of July 2025, the now deceased, Phumulani Moyo, had a misunderstanding with the accused person over a girlfriend. The accused person then hit the now deceased with a brick on the forehead and he became unconscious.”

Neighbours rushed to the scene and called an ambulance. Phumulani was taken to hospital, where he fought for his life for seven days before succumbing to his injuries on 18 July.

Despite the incident happening earlier in the month, a police report was only filed on 27 July, leading to the swift arrest of the accused.

Police have once again urged the public to avoid resorting to violence in resolving disputes.
“Police urge members of the public to desist from violence and try to solve their differences amicably,” said Assist Insp Ndlovu.

Brian Moyo is expected to appear in court soon facing murder charges.
