AS the Africa Cup of Nations finals come to an end today in Morocco, Rusape-based match official, Bright Chimene’s tour of duty ended in a quarter final showdown pitting Senegal and Mali.
Chimene, who was one of the three Zimbabweans to officiate at this year’s AFCON, handled a total of six matches – three as Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR) and three as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Such is Chimene’s technical and mental attitude that he managed to excel in the use of VAR in top notch AFCON encounters when the match officiating technology is yet to be rolled out in the domestic top-flight league back home.
Chimene was one of the three Zimbabwean match officials who participated at AFCON 2026, together with Norman Matemera who was in Morocco as a match commissioner.
Yesteryear veteran match official, Felix Tangawarima was also in Morocco as one of the lead instructors for referees.
