TYSON FURY pleaded with Brit rival Anthony Joshua to finally sign terms for a fight— but still nothing was confirmed.
Fury made a triumphant return to the squared circle with a win over Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Fellow former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua had one of the best seats in the house for the bout, sitting inches away from the ring.
Fury made an immediate beeline for the Watford warrior in his post-fight interview.
And despite trying to goad Joshua into accepting a fight next, the Watford brawler kept his cool and refused to confirm it was a done deal.
Leaning over the ropes and pointing at Joshua, Fury said: “Next I wanna give you the fight you’ve all been waiting for.
“I want you, AJ. Let’s f***ing dance.”
“Let’s give the fans the fight they’ve all been waiting for. I challenge you Anthony Joshua to fight me, the Gypsy King, Tyson Fury.
“Do you accept my challenge?”
But Joshua was somewhat nonchalant in his response. He said: “Tyson, you’re a clout chaser, I punched you up when we were kids, I’ll punch you up again. “You work for me. I’m the landlord.”
Despite there being little in the way of a date or location being openly discussed during the tense stand-off, Netflix, who broadcast Fury’s win against Makhmudov, tweeted it was done.
They posted on X: “Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua. This autumn from the UK. LIVE only on Netflix.”Joshua and Fury have been on a collision course for well over a decade.
A September showdown was mooted before Joshua was involved in a horror car crash in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of two of his close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
AJ has yet to speak publicly about his fighting future, but has been training with his two-time conqueror Oleksandr Usyk.
And he’s tentatively slated to make his first outing since knocking out Jake Paul last December in July. Joshua was interviewed by Netflix host Anna Woolhouse after watching Fury and was pushed again on fighting Fury.
He said: “I’m going to be completely honest. There’s a negotiation to go through. I’ve sat at this table many times. I’m not here to chase clout.
“Contracts will be sent over and I’ll more than likely be in the ring with him next.
“He’s the one that retired. I’ve been in the game for 13 years, I’ve never retired. I make the big fights, that’s what I said to him. He works for me.
“That could be a warm-up fight after what I saw tonight.
“I’m not ducking no one. I know what my job is, there’s just real things going on in my life. I run the game, I’m a serious fighter and I’m very strong as well.
“When I hit Fury I’m gonna hurt him bad.
“I have to [take a minute and do what’s best for me]. I’m sorting some things out for my brothers and their family
“I’ve been here a million times with him before. If I’m honest with you right now, until we’re in the ring there is no fight with him. I’ve been here three or four times before with Deontay Wilder and Fury.” —Sun
