British Brigade to redeem themselves

Foreign based Warriors otherwise known as aï¿½?The British Brigadeaï¿½? has been given another opportunity to redeem themselves and make the nation proud asAï¿½ Warriors coach Sunday aï¿½?Mhofuaï¿½? Chidzambwa assembled a squad dominated byAï¿½ foreign based players to represent the country in the forthcoming four nations invitational tournament in Zambia.

Last year, the inclusion of the aï¿½?British Brigadeaï¿½?, which included the quartet of Admiral Muskwe (Leicester), MaCauley Bonne (Leyton Orient), Tendai Darikwa (Nottingham Forest) as well as Kundai Benyu, could not inspire the Warriors to victory, who had among other internationals Tendai Ndoro, Marvelous Nakamba, Kuda Mahachi and Tinotenda Kadewere.

The Warriors succumbed to shocking defeats, first going down 1-0 to Lesotho and then losing 3-1 at the hands of Namibia in international friendly matches.

For the coming International competitions slated for March 22-25 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Mhofu has again added a different set of the aï¿½?British Brigadeaï¿½? to have a dance in national team colours.

He has included the uncapped trio of 26-year-old Adam Chicksen, who plays for English League One side Bradford, Cliff Moyo (24) of FC Halifax in the semi-professional league in the same country as well as Wales-based 22-year-old Aleck Mudimu.

aï¿½?The tournament comes at a time the technical team has been looking for an opportunity to assess some of the players whom we have not used previously.

aï¿½?If you look at the players whom we have selected, you will see that we have tried to take those whom we want to have a closer look at.

aï¿½?We already know who is capable of doing what, especially on the local scene, and we have decided to leave them because we already know them,aï¿½? said Chidzambwa.

Though he reckons the tournament will be a platform to gauge the calibre of players he could choose for serious future assignments, Chidzambwa retained some of the regulars as he also wants to win the competition.

The captain Knowledge Musona, Kudakwashe Mahachi and Khama Billiart will be missing in action as they are all suffering from injuries.
