A MAN stabbed his brother to death with a kitchen knife after a fight over a missing T-shirt in Chinhoyi.
The assailant has been arrested.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H-Metro that Trevor Kapungu (27), of House no 436 Chitambo, Chinhoyi, was arrested on Sunday for stabbing his brother, Tonderai, (35), after an altercation over a missing T-shirt.
“The two fought each other at their home and Trevor was overpowered and fell to the ground.
“He then picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Tonderai on the back, below the shoulder, and ran away,” said Kohwera.
He said their neighbour heard Tonderai calling for help.
“He found out that he was seriously injured.
“He hired a vehicle and rushed him to Chinhoyi Provincial hospital.
“He was attended to but later passed on.
“Trevor is in police custody and will appear in court soon,” he said.
Kohwera said the police continue to urge people to value the sanctity of life.
“Violence does not solve anything rather it worsens the situation leading to injuries, loss of property and life, “ said Kohwera.
The deceased’s sister, who requested not be identified, said the two started fighting inside the house.
“I don’t know what they were fighting for.”
A neighbour, Tafadzwa Mbarami, said:
“Their relationship as brothers was not all that good as there was a lot of animosity between the two brothers.
“People must learn to find ways to solve issues amicably rather than engage in violence.”
