TWO brothers from Plumtree allegedly teamed up and pounded their neighbour to death with a hammer.

Mduduzi Moyo, 34, and Ntuthuko, 21, allegedly killed Lovemore Sibanda, who is an ex-soldier, following a drinking spree on Sunday last week, a court heard.

The Moyo brothers appeared on initial remand before Plumtree magistrate, Livard Philemon facing a murder charge.

The magistrate remanded them in custody to January 6.

A misunderstanding, which was not disclosed in court, allegedly arose among the trio at Nxele Business Centre.

Members of the community intervened to restore peace, the court heard.

Sibanda, the court further heard, went home and returned armed with a hammer and confronted the brothers.

Prosecuting, Elisha Mazorodze said: “Mduduzi who was armed with an empty beer bottle struck Sibanda in the face and he fell down. Ntuthuko then picked up the hammer which had been dropped by Sibanda and he used it to bash Sibanda several times in the face and on the ribs until he died on the spot,” he said.

Mazorodze said the Moyo brothers fled but were later arrested in Izimnyama area.

He said Sibanda’s body was discovered the following morning by passersby lying a few metres from the business centre.
