A BULAWAYO man was thoroughly beaten while trying to assist his jilted brother to get his estranged wife back from another man.
Benjamin Maparanyanga, 26, of Mzilikazi was in pain as he came to court with a swollen face.
He sustained internal injuries after he was sjamboked and kicked all over the body with booted feet when he accompanied his brother Hardlife Chonge to demand his ex-wife, Ratidzo Tsonzo, back.

This emerged when Khumbulani Moyo, 35, and Dalokuhle Ngwenya, 34, both from Mzilikazi suburb appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa charged with assault.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Testifying yesterday, Chonge said his younger brother was assaulted by Ngwenya and his neighbour Moyo after he saw, one of Ngwenya’s relatives putting on his wife’s cap.

“When I got home last Tuesday I found that my wife had left the children with the maid and that is when we decided to look for her and we later heard that she was at Ngwenya’s house,” he said.

Chonge said they visited Ngwenya’s house four times but could not locate his wife and that is when his brother was assaulted.
He told the court that his wife has since permanently moved in with Ngwenya.

Maparanyanga, who had difficulties sitting up straight, alleged he was assaulted on the ribs with a sjambok.

The trial continues today and Kudakwashe Jaravaza is representing the state.
