Two Chitungwiza brothers who seriously assaulted their well-to-do sister accusing her of being a witch and behind their suffering were last week each jailed for eight months in prison.
Paurosi (30) and his younger brother, Josphat Chipori (26) both of Unit N stormed the house of their sister Cassie Chipori (35) in Unit A on June 7.
Upon arrival at the house at round 11.30pm, they knocked at the gate and Cassie sent her son Simbarashe to open the gate for the two.
The court heard that the pair assaulted him accusing him of delaying in opening for them as they proceeded to Cassie’s bedroom and knocked.
When Cassie opened the door, they started insulting her and labelling her a prostitute and a witch.
They accused her of being rich at their expense before punching and kicking her.
They also went to the kitchen where they armed themselves with utensils that they used to assault her again.
The court heard that during the melee, they damaged a set of dinner plates and Cassie’s neighbour came to her rescue and restrained them.
After escaping, Cassie reported the matter to the police leading to the two brothers.
Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo, the duo denied assault charges but was convicted after prosecutor Mr Tendai Mukariri proved a strong case against them.
Mr Murendo sentenced them each to 12 months and conditionally set aside four months for five years.
