Emmanuel Muturiki(20) of Mabika Village under Chief Munyikwa has since appeared before a Gutu magistrates’ court facing murder charges.
According to the allegations, the man teamed up with his two brothers not mentioned in court who are still on the run to kill their father, Kumunda Muturiki.
They accused him of practising witchcraft and possessing goblins that were tormenting them.
Muturiki was not asked to plead when he appeared before Gutu resident magistrate Mr Amos Mbobho.
Mr Mbobho remanded him in custody to July 29.
He advised Muturiki to apply for bail at the High Court.
The State alleged that on June 7 this year at around 11pm, Emmanuel teamed up with his two brothers and confronted their father accusing him of dabbling in witchcraft and possessing goblins.
They allegedly started assaulting him with logs and sticks all over the body.
The father collapsed and died on the spot.
One of the brothers allegedly took five litres of petrol and doused the body before setting it on fire.
Some neighbours are however, reported to have rushed to the scene forcing the trio to flee.
The villagers apprehended Emmanuel and handed him over to the police.
His brothers escaped and are still at large.
Mr Sydney Manonose appeared for the State.
