NEWLY-ELECTED Zimbabwe Swimming chairperson Rumbidzai Mahobele has underscored the need for the country to host regional events for the benefit of local athletes.
Competitions such as the Africa Aquatics Zone IV Championships present a platform for the development and growth of upcoming swimmers.
And Zimbabwe have regularly registered some encouraging results at the meet.
Mahobele acknowledged the role of regional competitions, and would want to see the country hosting such championships in the future.
“There is need for Zimbabwe to be able to host regional competitions once our infrastructure is up to standard.
“Hosting regional championships would benefit our local swimmers as it will be more accessible.
“We currently rely on our neighbouring countries to give our swimmers exposure,” said Mahobele.
Zimbabwe have previously hosted the Zone IV Championships, including in 2007 and 2017.
They are currently looking forward to participating at the forthcoming Zone IV Championships to be hosted by Botswana in September.
