TWO brothers were arrested after being found in possession of cocaine worth over $1.5 million.

They were nabbed after a high-speed chase by the police.

Wilson Malicky Karidza and Richard Marlon Karidza, of Waterfalls, were taken into custody and charged with possession of a dangerous drug, with the intent to supply.

They were also charged with reckless and dangerous driving. Wilson appeared separately before magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka yesterday.

Bail was opposed by the prosecutor on the grounds that the accused were a flight risk and a danger to society.

However, the defence lawyer argued that the accused had no previous convictions and had strong ties to the community.

The magistrate reserved ruling on bail until today, and adjourned the matter to June 12 for a preliminary hearing.

The court heard that on Tuesday, police received information that the brothers were dealing in drugs inthe Eastlea area.

Police conducted surveillance on the duo at Pennywise Shopping Centre and spotted their silver Benz C300 vehicle.

When they spotted the detectives, Richard took off at high speed towards Samora Machel Avenue.

The police gave chase and the car rammed into a ditch along St Patrick’s Road in Hatfield.

The two brothers allegedly disembarked from the vehicle and fled on foot.

The police gave chase and found Richard in possession of three grammes of cocaine worth $736 000 while Wilson was found in possession of eight grammes with a street value of $864 000.
