Brothers on the run for raping student

A Warren Park High schoolgirl was subjected to gang rape by two brothers she was co-tenants with from June last year.

Elton and Gift Machimu are reported to have initially tried to initiate the 16-year-old student into prostitution so that they could cash in from potential clients, but she refused.

They resorted to raping her repeatedly threatening her with unspecified action.

Her sexual torment only came to light after she relocated from the house she shared with the rapist brothers and disclosed assault to her headmistress.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case and appealed for information that may help them arrest the brothers.

“Sometime in June 2023, the complainant and the accused persons were staying together as co-tenants. “The accused persons told the complainant that they should go together to the Avenues where the complainant can make some money through prostitution, but she refused and they exchanged harsh words.

“One of the brothers locked the door and raped her once without protection.

“After the act, the accused person threatened to harm the complainant with unspecified action if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

“The following morning, the other brother returned from work and told the complainant that she was his wife so he can do what he wants with her.

“He then grabbed her by the neck, dragged her into her bedroom where he raped her once without protection.

“From that day onwards the brothers continued having unprotected sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent on different occasions.

“The girl then later moved out of the house and looked for alternative accommodation and one of the brothers followed and raped her.

“On February 5, the complainant narrated her ordeal to the headmistress, who in turn informed her mother.

“The complainant was referred to Warren Park Poly Clinic for medical attention and later referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for further management,” said Insp Chakanza.
