LONDON. – Arsenal are on the brink of landing Bruno Guimaraes in a blockbuster deal.
The midfielder, 28, jetted into Spain for Newcastle’s pre-season training camp yesterday.
But Guimaraes’ heart was set on joining Arsenal ahead of showdown talks with incoming Magpies chief Matthias Jaissle.
And the Brazilian has moved to within touching distance of getting his wish.
Arsenal and Newcastle have edged towards reaching a total agreement over a transfer.
The Magpies initially insisted offers would not be entertained for their skipper as they desperately fought to keep him.
But Newcastle have been forced into a U-turn after Guimaraes, who played a key role in Brazil’s World Cup campaign before they crashed out in the last-16, made it clear that he wants to quit.
And there is now a desire among all parties to find a resolution instead of allowing the transfer saga to drag on.
Guimaraes is waiting for Newcastle to give him the green light to travel to North London for a medical before completing the mega-money switch.
The former Lyon man made 41 appearances in all competitions last season, notching nine goals and eight assists along the way. – The Sun
