LEGENDARY former Liverpool and Zimbabwe senior national football team goalkeeper Bruce “Jungleman” Grobbelaar has endorsed and gave his full blessings to the staging of the inaugural Academy of Sports Excellence’s Schools Sports Tournament to be held this Saturday at Muyawiri Primary School in Domboshawa.

The event brings together eight teams—boys’ and girls’ squads from Kachuta Primary, Munyawiri Primary, Govera Secondary, and Munyawiri Secondary — for a day of football, teamwork, and community pride.

Founded by Adam Dakwa (Jersey, UK) and Tawanda Karasa (Australia), ASE is a Zimbabwe-based initiative committed to transforming Africa’s brightest young footballers into world-class athletes and future leaders through elite training, education, and mentorship.

This event is proudly supported by the British High Commission and ASE’s development partner, Young Achievement Sport for Development (YASD).

Their backing underscores a shared commitment to youth empowerment and grassroots sports.

And legendary former Liverpool and Zimbabwe goalkeeper Grobbelaar has also contributed generously, donating football kits to equip and inspire the young players.

“I am driven to inspire young stars across Zimbabwe to excel, whether in the classroom or on the field.

“Domboshawa came to life through my friend Tawanda Karasa, and I’m proud to donate two kits for this tournament.

“This place holds deep, soulful memories for me. As a child, we spent countless hours at Mermaids Pool. It was our special spot.

“My message to aspiring young footballers is simple: dream big. Whatever you want to achieve, you can make it happen with dedication. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box, that’s where true inspiration begins.

“To all participants: play with joy, smile, and savor every moment. Winning is great, but giving your best is what truly matters. When you do that, no one can ask for more,” Grobbelaar said.

Another former international footballer, Musareka Jenitala, who is now based in the UK, is also behind the staging of tomorrow’s tournament in Domboshawa.

“I’m passionate about grassroots football and creating opportunities for kids from marginalized communities.

“With my experience and connections in Europe, I aim to support those ready to take the next step, starting with smaller clubs and building from there,” Jenitala said.

One of the tournament’s founder members, Dakwa, added: “This tournament is about far more than football — it is about igniting hope, unlocking potential, and giving young people the courage to dream boldly. “Through sport, we are shaping leaders, building character, and creating opportunities that can change the course of a young person’s life.

“I am deeply grateful to Truckeaze International for sponsoring this event, and to RemoteEaze, YASD, the British Embassy, and Bruce Grobbelaar for standing with us as partners in this mission.”

A network of local sports teachers has been mobilized to co-ordinate the event and support long-term sports development in the region.

The community in Domboshawa and the surrounding areas in Harare is warmly invited to attend and support the next generation of talent.
