THE ZANU PF Harare Provincial Youth League has endorsed President Mnangagwa as the party’s sole candidate for the 2030 presidential elections and proposed that he remains party leader.
The resolution was reached during an inter-district meeting held at the party’s provincial offices on Wednesday.
The Youth League also called for the party’s constitution to be aligned with the national Constitution by moving the National People’s Congress from 2027 to 2030.
The resolutions place the Harare provincial youth structures among the latest party organs backing President Mnangagwa’s continued leadership beyond his current term.
Speaking during the meeting, Harare Provincial Youth League chairperson Cde Emmanuel Mahachi said district leaders had reached a consensus on the President’s candidature.
“We have seen it fit that President Mnangagwa as First Secretary of the Party be our 2030 Congress’ sole candidate,” said Cde Mahachi.
He said the Youth League also wanted the party’s constitution amended to bring it into line with the national Constitution following Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3.
“We are also appealing that the Congress be moved from 2027 to 2030, so that our Party Constitution be aligned with the National Constitution, and as well as be our candidate for ZANU PF in 2030,” he said.
The meeting also adopted resolutions focusing on issues affecting young people, including drug and substance abuse, skills development, political representation and economic empowerment.
The youth league called for an increase in rehabilitation facilities to cater for young people affected by drug and substance abuse, while commending First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Angel of Hope Foundation for its rehabilitation work.
“We also want to appreciate and thank First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa through her Angel of Hope Foundation that is helping with rehabilitation services for drug and substance abuse victims, as well as a few private operators about two or three,” said Cde Mahachi.
The youth league also resolved that more vocational training centres should be built to equip young people with life skills and technical competencies, while complementing efforts to rehabilitate drug and substance abuse victims.
The centres will provide affected young people with opportunities to acquire skills and rebuild their lives after rehabilitation.
The meeting further called for an increase in the number of seats reserved under the youth quota in Parliament to strengthen young people’s participation in national affairs.
“We also made a resolution on the youth quota, we believe that the numbers can be increased so that our voice as youths can be heard in the Parliament,” said Cde Mahachi.
