A BIG turnout is expected at Pole Position Kart race track at the National Sports Stadium in round four of the Kart Sport Club and Rok Cup Zimbabwe championship races set for this Sunday.

The event marks the halfway point of the series.

Competitors are looking forward to some close championship point races as they fight for both class and championship positions.

New lap records were set in all classes at the last meeting by Elroy Shamu in Kid ROK, TK Mapiro in Mini ROK, Zac Dufty in 125 Max and Moe Moosa in the Pro Karts series.

All eyes will be on the stopwatches this Sunday as the cooler weather will ensure perfect conditions for performance of the kart engines.

The fast 125 Max class always brings the spectators to the fence, and the last meeting was no exception.

Yeftach Sivan and Zaydaan Savania are expected to reignite their intense rivalry this weekend. Jacob Viki is also keen to get locked into the battle after missing the last round.

With 15 drivers between the ages of six to 12 years now racing in the Rok Cup, and more waiting in the wings, these young pilots will provide thrilling competition and close driving throughout their classes.

Spectators will no doubt be treated to an amazing spectacle as they watch these young racers reach speeds of up to 80Kph.

ROK Cup Zimbabwe is a member of the international ROK Cup racing program and is an FIA Authorised International Series that has a 15-year history in over 40 countries.

Kevin Dufty, the local promoter said the series offers good opportunities for development of local athletes.

“ROK is a fantastic kart series that offers exciting opportunities for young individuals to start racing either as a hobby or for those who dream of racing in the big league.

“It offers a competitive, easy to use racing package and provides a racing platform for all ages and expectations, from the novice racer to world-class professional drivers.

Club chairman Victor Shambare added: “It is a busy time for Kart Sport Club and we are excited by the growth the club is experiencing.

“We are already anticipating a good turn out this Sunday and hope that more spectators will come and join us to enjoy the day out and find out more about this exciting sport.”
