STAR female boxer Kuda “Take Money” Chiwandire is on cloud nine after receiving a car gift from her anchor sponsors KGK.
The 27-year-old has been keeping a low profile since returning from her unsuccessful challenge for the World Boxing Council bantamweight title in Mexico two months ago.
Chiwandire, who hardly had time to acclimatise in Chihuahua, Mexico as she only had seven hours to rest, lost the bout on points to Yamileth Mercado.
But she remains the only Zimbabwean in the history of the sport to have had a shot at the WBC gold stripe.
And her sponsors, KGK have gifted her with a car, a Toyota Vitz (new shape) to ease her movement as she looks to challenge for other titles including possibly seeking a rematch with Mercado given the circumstances leading to her loss in Mexico.
An ecstatic Chiwandire saluted KGK for the gesture.
“I would like to thank my main sponsors KGK for what they have done for me since we started working together.
“They have been there for me in both good and bad times.
“I really appreciate this gesture and all the things they have done for me.
“Look, they have been kitting me all along and now this car. I don’t have enough words to thank them,” said Chiwandire.
“KGK is fronted by Collins Mnangagwa and I would like to salute him. All my life I have been commuting and mostly I have been late for gym sessions. But this gift means I will do everything on time. I am really grateful”.
Chiwandire has been under the wings of KGK for almost two years.
Although she has been into sport for years, first playing football and then karate, Chiwandire first shot into prominence after she beat Catherine Phiri of Zambia to win the WBC interim title in Lusaka in February last year.
She would defend the title against Mexican Zulina Munoz at the Harare International Conference Centre late last year.
That victory gave her the licence to challenge for the gold title against holder Mercado.
The loss meant Chiwandire has to start all over again and the support she is receiving from KGK including the car gift should lift her up.
Although Chiwandire has been fighting under Deltaforce stable which is owned by Clyde Musonda, she is not a member of that club.
