BUBI District is set to become home to Zimbabwe’s first purpose-built traditional leaders’ court, as Government moves to provide modern infrastructure for the administration of justice and community development, which dovetails with Vision 2030.
The court, which is being developed under the jurisdiction of Chief Mtshane Khumalo, will comprise a main courtroom, council offices, the chief’s office and a culture centre.
The facility is expected to be completed within four months, with the date for the groundbreaking ceremony set to be announced.
The project was unveiled during a briefing and site visit at the chief’s courtyard in Bubi District on Sunday, attended by Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Deputy Minister Simelisizwe Sibanda, Government officials and traditional leaders.
Chief Mtshane Khumalo welcomed the development, expressing appreciation to President Mnangagwa for the initiative. He said the project could pave the way for the construction of similar facilities for traditional leaders across the country.
“This dedicated facility would help strengthen the administration of justice in my community, where court sessions had previously been conducted without a purpose-built facility,” he said.
Speaking during the meeting, District Development Coordinator Mr Juma Dube said the court formed part of Government’s efforts to provide modern infrastructure under Vision 2030 and ensure that traditional leaders had appropriate facilities from which to serve their communities.
In addition to the traditional leaders’ court, other planned projects include a community hall, youth skills centre, clinic, agricultural warehouse and constituency centre.
Land identification for the projects is underway, while a site visit was conducted at Tatazela Hall as part of preparations for the developments.
The identified land is expected to be handed over to the relevant ministry before being transferred to the contractor.
Syndicate Resources was identified as the company whose tender had been approved for construction-related work.
Company representative Mr Justice Mayor Wadyajena said the firm was committed to supporting the country’s development agenda through infrastructure designed to respond to community needs.
Deputy Minister Sibanda, who is also the Bubi legislator, said education should extend beyond the classroom by equipping people with the knowledge and skills to apply what they learn responsibly and contribute positively to their communities.
