Bucs, Stars battle in Cup

Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates will square off in a Nedbank Cup semi-final encounter at a sold-out Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem today.

Ea Lla Koto are targeting their first ever final appearance in this Cup competition since 1994. The tournament was still known as the Bob Save Super Bowl.

Vaal Professionals won 1-0 against Stars, who were still known as QwaQwa Stars, after extra-time at the FNB Stadium in the final.

The Bethlehem-based side did reach the Nedback Cup semi-finals in 2008 and 2010, but they were knocked by MP Black Aces and Bidvest Wits respectively.

Meanwhile, Pirates will be eyeing the second Nedbank Cup final in three years when they lock horns with Stars also today.

Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola insisted that they shouldn’t underestimate his former side Stars who are confident heading into the semifinal clash. — Sport24.
