SOUTH Africa-based dancehall star Buffalo Souljah has reunited with former Channel O DJ, Waxxy – a Nigerian who was responsible for the success of his music career.

Waxxy, a DJ and producer who was based in South Africa commanded a huge following early 2000 when he hosted The 411 and Oboma programmes on Channel O. In 2009/10, DJ Waxxy met Souljah when he was trying to break into the SA entertainment industry. He realised and appreciated his talent and agreed to promote him by signing him under his Hottwaxx records. Together they produced hit track, Izandla Phezulu, which was heavily rotated on Channel O because of Waxxy’s links.

Considering the video was well packaged, it was well received by TV audiences and earned a Channel O Music Video awards nod.

From there, Souljah and Waxxy continued working closely together, making appearances at shows and producing more hits. They also graced the Big Brother Africa house together for one of the housemates Friday parties.

What made them noticeable was that they blended well together as they were both tall, dreadlocked and were ladies men. But in 2011, things went sour between the two after it was rumoured Buffalo Souljah had gone behind Waxxy’s back and got him fired from Channel O after he told them he was working with the station’s competitors.

Souljah however refuted the claims saying they went their separate ways after a sponsored deal went sour.

“The deal involved a beverage company in South Africa. I wanted to do something and he wanted to do something else, hence we didn’t agree. A lot was said because it [disagreement] was a culmination of a lot of issues,” said Buffalo Souljah.

After Waxxy left Channel O, he tried to remain relevant on the South African music scene, but he soon faded. Though his talent was still there, not many people seemed to care about him, probably because they had ditched him for new presenters and DJs on Channel O such as Nonhle Thema.

While Waxxy was at his lowest, Buffalo was conveniently on the rise, releasing hit after hit, constantly scooping the Best ragga/dancehall Channel O award for his various videos.

He also set up his own record label – United Nations of Africa (UNA) where he signed up former Miss Zimbabwe – Vanessa ‘QueenVee’ Sibanda and some Angolan artistes. Through the links Waxxy had left Souljah with, he never seemed to have challenges submitting content to the station as all their videos would be launched on Channel O.

And now, years later, Souljah and DJ Waxxy have decided to smoke the peace pipe and work together again.

This was publicly announced earlier this week by Souljah who posted pictures of him and Waxxy on social media sites Facebook and Instagram with the message: “Friends again after five years now. #TeaAnyone <https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/teaanyone>? I’ll forever humble myself to the O.G, DJ Waxxy.”

“We’ll celebrate the reunion by hosting a ‘Reunion Party’ and get back to business afterwards. They’ve been people who’ve been urging us to get back together and settle our differences and I’m glad we’ve managed to do so,” said Buffalo Souljah.

But, Souljah seems confused as he last year claimed that he had quit music. He has since backtracked saying he was staying much longer as he feels the music industry needs him.

“I think I quit too early. There’s a lot that I can bring to the table in terms of entertainment. I’ve a lot of collaborations that I need to do and it’s not yet my time to hang up the mic.

“I’ll keep producing good music that’ll win me more awards and build my record label, U.N.A,” he said.

To add onto that confusion, the artiste seems to be on a desperate attention seeking drive. Of late, he has sent many tongues wagging as has been posting images and videos of himself semi-nude with the attention mostly on his private parts. In the pictures, Souljah appears in boxers with a bulge in the groin area.
