BULAWAYO-based athlete Angas Goliath left the country for Switzerland on Friday to study and train on a Koffi Annan Scholarship. The 400m sprinter who was at Nyasha Charandura Athletics Academy which is based at the National University of Science and Technology, will pursue academics and athletics abroad.
Goliath was studying human resources management at the Bulawayo Polytechnic.
He has clocked 48.53 seconds in the 400m dash and he has been a regular podium feature at most college meetings.
Academy founder and trainer Charandura described Goliath as a hard worker and a deserving guy to be awarded both an academic and sporting scholarship to Switzerland.
“We started working together in 2009, he is a hard worker and he really deserves to go to Switzerland, we ran together in the college and universities games four times and he has been dominating most college games,” said Charandura.
Also from the NCA, 14-year-old Kiana Lees will be going to compete at the World Youth Christian Convention Championships which will be held in the United States of America this week.
Lees is set to compete in the 100m event. She has a personal best of 12.60 seconds attained in the qualifiers held in South Africa last year.
“I’m happy with the rate these guys are getting exposed, it gives them a chance to prove themselves outside the country and it shows that we are progressing as a club,” he said.
