HARARE is set for a night of fireworks as mixed martial arts warrior and former heavyweight boxing champion Elvis Moyo gears up for a homecoming fight on 21 November.
Speaking from his Edenvale Gym base in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Bulawayo-born fighter, popularly known as

“Bulawayo Bomber,” said he is fired up to give fans a memorable show.
“My handlers in Harare have indicated that I should stay in shape. I am due to fight in a heavyweight contest on 21 November.

There is no resting, I am working hard to be ready for that date,” Moyo told B-Metro.
The hard-hitting brawler recently suffered heartbreak after losing his Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) heavyweight title on a technicality. He was stripped of the belt after failing to make the weight limit by just 800 grammes ahead of his title defence against Democratic Republic of Congo’s Matunga Djikasa.

Moyo’s fighting journey started in Bulawayo where he trained under Phillip Striker as a sparring partner for former national heavyweight champion Thamsanqa Dube.

Before switching to the brutal world of mixed martial arts a decade ago, Moyo was a dominant force in boxing, once holding the African heavyweight title under the World Boxing Organisation banner.

In April, he captured the prestigious EFC heavyweight crown, proving his mettle in the cage. Now, with a chance to fight in front of his home crowd, Moyo says he is ready to remind Zimbabwe why he is one of Africa’s fiercest fighters.

“Fighting at home is special. I want to give the fans something to cheer about,” he said.
Harare fight fans are already buzzing with excitement as the countdown begins to what promises to be a bone-crunching showdown.
