Bulawayo bloggers treated to Day-Long Getaway

Blogging is a growing trend the world over and in the more developed world it is a way to earn a decent living.

While the blogging community in Bulawayo still remains quite small, Bulawayo Bloggers, an initiative aimed at celebrating the works of local bloggers, treated bloggers in Bulawayo to a retreat at Hillside Dams.

The initial venue for the event had been Amagugu International Heritage Centre but due to the weather, the group of creatives had to change locations.

The retreat came as an effort by social media entrepreneur Valentine Tusai, Culxure Magazine, TV Yangu and Hunnar Agency to conglomerate bloggers from Bulawayo into a movement that pushes the recognition of their work into different spaces.

According to Tusai, the retreat is the first of many Bulawayo Bloggers events and meet-ups which will create one big voice that will put local bloggers on the map while at the same time celebrating the young, driven bloggers from all over the city.

“The more events like this we have, the more the local bloggersphere will benefit from the identity that it will have. The affiliation to Bulawayo Bloggers movement is a selfless, opportunity creating movement. We already have great things that have been happening on the online platforms and Whatsapp groups; we just want to make our achievements more physical and more interactive,” Tusai said.

Activities at the retreat included braai and a photo shoot courtesy of TV Yangu and in depth discussions about how they could each improve their respective blogs.

Moving forward, Bulawayo Bloggers hope to hold monthly meet-ups at different locations around Bulawayo and grow the movement, to engage the corporate world and provide services and advertisement spaces for them, thereby growing the different blogs into entities that eventually generate capital and most importantly to conglomerate new, seasoned and upcoming bloggers.
