WORLD Boxing Federation All Africa heavyweight champion Elvis Victor Moyo has upped his preparations for the fight against Brendon Groenewald in an Extreme Fighting Championship Africa title eliminator in Cape Town, South Africa on June 5.
This will be Bulawayo born-pugilist’s second fight in the mixed martial arts and he will be out to register his second successive victory in as many matches having opened his account with a convincing win against Sors Grobelaar in March.
Moyo said the move to cage fights came after a frustrating boxing year which saw him fail to get fights.
EFC Africa stages tournaments every six weeks and Moyo is the first Zimbabwean to participate in the growing sport which is dominated by South Africans, Ghanaians, Congolese, Nigerians and a few Egyptians.
The June 5 fight between Moyo popularly known as the “Bulawayo Bomber” and Groenewald is a title elimination bout with the winner set to battle it out for the belt later this year.
EFC non-championship bouts are fought in three rounds with championship matches being five rounds. Each round is five minutes.
The Bulawayo Bomber declared himself ready for the upcoming fight with his manager-cum-trainer Gert Strydom saying they have done lots of research on Groenwald and they are ready for the South African.
Strydom spoke highly about his athlete who he believes will conquer the cage fight world.
“He has a very athletic body, he’s a strong guy, short and stocky for a heavyweight. He’s got tremendous power. Once this kid explodes it’s going to be all action. Actually we are going to see knockouts in the heavyweight division and knockouts that are going to show over and over. Classic knockouts are what you will see from Elvis.
“We respect Brendon and we know that he is a specialist on the ground. We know he is going to try take Elvis down. We’ve got a surprise for Brendon if he tries to take us down. A message to Brendon is please take us to the ground we are waiting,” said Strydom.
Just like his trainer who seems to have lots of confidence in him, Moyo a former Tshaka Boxing Centre in Makokoba pugilist is bullish and said he would be travelling to the Mother City hoping to register another victory.
“He (Groenwald) is probably thinking that I’m just another boxer who he is going to get on the ground, twist and turn, try to choke and buckle. I know how to take care of myself and I am not worried about him at all. If he shoots like a headless chicken I will knock him out before you people say hoooh,” Moyo said.
