BULAWAYO pugilist Elvis Victor Moyo yesterday declared himself ready for today’s fight against former South African junior heavyweight champion Danie Venter at Pretoria North City Hall, South Africa. The two will trade leather in the main bout of the night to be played over six rounds.
In an interview yesterday afternoon from his base in South Africa, Moyo who has fully recovered from an ankle injury said he is ready for Venter.
“I am ready for the fight. It’s been a while since I got into the ring and seeing that my contract with Brunel Laboratory is about to expire, I want to end my relationship with them on a good note.
“The good thing is that my opponent is the one who is under pressure going into this fight and on the other side I am a very dangerous underdog,” said Moyo.
Venter is scheduled to fight Sean Cox from Barbados for the vacant WBF international heavyweight title in Pretoria on 21 September and will want to win tonight’s bout.
Moyo who used to do sparring with former Pan-African World Boxing heavyweight champion Thamsanqa Dube last fought in March against Osbourne Machimana. According to media reports from South Africa, referees made a controversial decision declaring the match a draw when it appeared Moyo had got the better of Machimana.
Last month the Sizinda-born pugilist was dealt another blow after a Democratic Republic of Congo boxer only identified as Platini turned down their 29 June bout.
Since penning a deal with Brunel Laboratory owners of Elev8 last year, Moyo has fought three times losing to Joseph Chingangu on points, beating Justice Silinga and the controversial draw against Machimana.
