Bulawayo businessman guns self down

COWDRY Park residents residing near Denver area on Sunday morning woke up to some shock as they witnessed the body of a Bulawayo businessman lying lifeless in a pool of blood besides his car.

John Madzikatire, who owned butcheries at Chigumira shopping centre, a popular spot at Luveve is suspected to have committed suicide on Saturday night.

Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the businessman’s death.

“Police confirm the death of John Tafara Madzikatire who was found with a gunshot wound in the head.

Police are treating the case as suicide but investigations are continuing,” said Ass Insp Msebele.

According to witnesses from the area, a woman was heard shouting for help on Saturday night.

“I heard a woman shouting for help on Saturday night saying someone wants to kill her. She ran towards a tuckshop, which we call Magadzire. As soon as she arrived there, they heard gunshots and when they returned to the car, the man was lying down,” said the witness who spoke on condition of anonymity.

When The Sunday News visited the scene, shortly after 9am, the police had cordoned off the area conducting investigations.

The body was then taken shortly after 10am.

Madzikatire resided at his plot in Kensington.

The vehicle that he was driving when he reportedly shot himself was released to the family.
