BULAWAYO Chiefs FC have taken a deliberate step into grassroots football after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Cyrene High School, a move that roots the club’s long term vision firmly in the classroom and on the training pitch.
The partnership is centred on the identification and nurturing of football talent at school level, reinforcing Bulawayo Chiefs’ commitment to youth development beyond the first team structure.
Under the agreement, Bulawayo Chiefs will adopt Cyrene FC as a football development school, enabling aspiring players to receive structured, professional training while continuing with their formal education.
Explaining the focus of the initiative, the club said: “This project is aimed at identifying and nurturing young football talent within Cyrene High School, providing them with the necessary resources and training to excel in the sport.”
As part of the collaboration, Bulawayo Chiefs will deploy qualified coaches to Cyrene High School to provide specialised academy training and mentorship, establishing an early development bridge between school football and the professional game.
The club said the programme would “usher in specialised coaching from experienced trainers affiliated with Bulawayo Chiefs FC, ensuring that students receive high quality instruction and mentorship.”
Beyond developing football skills, the partnership is also intended to mould young players holistically. According to the club, the initiative will promote “discipline, teamwork, and leadership among young footballers while creating a clear pathway for talented students to progress into the professional ranks.”
Bulawayo Chiefs believe the project has the potential to produce future professionals, with players expected, in time, to feed into the club’s senior team as well as opportunities locally and internationally.
The club said the partnership would have a broader impact on the game, adding, “We believe that this partnership with Cyrene High School will significantly contribute to the growth of football in the region while empowering young athletes to pursue their dreams.”
