BULAWAYO Christian League football and netball leagues have received a shot in the arm amid revelations they have entered into a sponsorship partnership with Bhiza Chemicals.

Bulawayo Christian League are affiliates of the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa). Ahead of their orientation tournament which will be held at United College of Education (UCE), Bhiza Chemicals proprietor Sunungurai Bhiza, said they were going to provide winners and first runners-up in both tournaments with a trophy and medal, kits plus playing balls for both disciplines.

“Soccer winners will go home with a trophy plus a medical aid kit. Their runners-up will get a soccer ball. In the women’s category, winners will also receive a playing kit and netball bibs. The second best will go home with a ball in a tournament where we are going to provide refreshments and lunch,” said Bhiza.

“Our main aim is to help people who make up the league to come together and we have thought of becoming part of the family that preaches the gospel through sport,” said Bhiza whose son once turned out for the Highlanders Under-15 team.

BCL chairman Lawrence Chats, who leads Life Spring Ministries said they were expecting 23 soccer teams and nine netball outfits to take part in the event.

“We are very much grateful to Bhiza Chemicals. We believe it’s going to be an exciting football and netball tournament.  With the prevailing economic situation, we are very much blessed to have Bhiza Chemicals as our sponsors,” he said.

He added that all the participants would receive Bhiza Chemicals branded warm-up t-shirts.

Last season, Eagle Life Assembly were crowned winners in the football contest while Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) emerged champions in the netball league.
