BULAWAYO City Football Club shot to the top of the Zifa Southern Region Division One log standings with an emphatic 4-0 win over visiting Mpumalanga at Luveve Stadium yesterday. A brace from Makhosi Ncube, another goal from Terrance Majo and an own goal by Andrew Chakova ensured City leapfrogged Bulawayo Chiefs and ZPC Hwange to the summit of the log albeit on goal difference as the three teams have so far amassed 26 points each.

Chiefs beat Bantu Rovers 2-1 at Fairbridge while ZPC were held to a nil-all drew by Casmyn at Turk Mine.
City were on top of the game from the first whistle and were rewarded in the 13th minute when an industrious Trevor Ndlovu dribbled past Mpumalanga defenders on the left and his harmless looking cross saw Chakova beat his goalkeeper Deign Munkuli.

Mpumalanga had come close to opening the score sheet as early as the second minute after being awarded a free kick just outside the arc of the penalty area and Banana Muzamba’s dipping ball forced City’s goalkeeper Ndodana Sibanda to stretch wide to punch it out.

Makhosi Ncube, who came in for Humphrey Ncube, made it two-up for City in the 64th minute when his shot from 22 yards beat a hapless Munkuli.
Eleven minutes later Makhosi made it three after he was fed by Mkhululi Moyo unmarked just outside the box.

With a meeting remaining Majo put his name on the score sheet with a sublime curler from free kick on the edge of the box, after the enterprising Ndlovu was illegal brought down.
City’s assistant coach, Farai Mujokoro expressed delight with the big win saying it was a good confidence booster ahead of their crunch tie against title rivals Chiefs next weekend.
“We played well and it was a good win for us considering the margin of the score line. We have been working hard to get more goals and I am happy they came today.

“I believe the goals could prove crucial in deciding the championship hence we have to get more of them,’’ said Mujokoro.
“The game gives us a boost as we head to the showdown with Chiefs although it will be a totally different game.”
