PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) chairman Farai Jere, says he has been charmed by the fact that Bulawayo’s topflight teams all have well-structured junior teams which he says is the way to go if the quality of football in the country is to improve.
Speaking at the 2021/22 Castle Lager Soccer Stars of the Year banquet last Friday, Jere said they are going in the direction where every topflight side must have junior teams like what is happening in Bulawayo.
“We will strive to ensure all clubs have junior teams. When we went for our AGM and EGM in Bulawayo, I was so impressed and humbled by the way the Bulawayo teams are organised in terms of having junior teams.
“I had an opportunity to watch Highlanders and Chicken Inn. I was so impressed because they have proper structures from Under-13 all the way up and the clubs should be commended for that,” said Jere.
He said improving the quality of football was the league’s priority.
“Our main goals going forward is to improve the quality of our football to make it more attractive to sponsors, corporate world and most importantly the fans. We will be focusing more on implementing club licensing.
“We want to assist clubs to establish a strong secretariat for proper football governance as well as effective communication and marketing. Secretariat are the centre and heartbeat of professional clubs.
We will also be looking at the development of facilities and junior football,” said Jere. — @innocentskizoe
