All is set for Zanu-PF District Coordinating Committee (DCC) elections scheduled for today in Bulawayo Province.
This follows the successful holding of DCC elections in Harare after the Politburo in October resolved to reinstate the organ within the party structures.
In an interview last night, the party’s national secretary for the Commissariat Cde Victor Matemadanda said everything was in place for the Bulawayo elections.
He said five provincial chairpersons were monitoring the election process in the metropolitan province.
The chairpersons are Cdes Ezra Chadzamira (Masvingo), Ziyambi Ziyambi (Mashonaland West), Daniel Mackanzie Ncube (Midlands), Richard Moyo (Matabeleland North) and Rabelani Choeni (Matabeleland South).
“The printing of ballot papers has been completed,” said Cde Matemadanda.
“We are going to distribute the ballot papers early tomorrow (today) morning.
“If all goes well, voting process will start at 11am. We have also party commissioners who are expected to monitor the voting process.
“I met with the delegates who are going to supervise the elections.
“We have already deployed them to various centres for the smooth flow of the elections.”
All card-carrying members are expected to vote, while contestants will be vying for 22 posts in each DCC.
Cde Matemadanda urged voters to carry their national identity cards and register their names before they voted.
“Voting begins at 11:00am and ends at 7pm,” he said.
Cde Matemadanda urged voters to go and cast ballots for their preferred candidates in their numbers.
“Zanu-PF is a democratic party,” he said.
“All systems are already in place for the elections.”
Cde Matemadanda warned some senior party members such as those in the Central Committee, National Consultative Assembly and Politburo to interfere with the electoral process.
“Vetting of prospective candidates have been completed,” he said.
“The party wants to set proper structures in Bulawayo.
The New Dispensation will not tolerate acts of factionalism in its structures.”
The reintroduction of DCCs, which were banned in 2012, is the first step in the restructuring of the party as it prepares for the 2023 harmonised elections.
