THE timely arrival of a Bulawayo Fire Brigade crew saw property worth ZWG3,5 million being saved following a house fire in Selbourne Park on Tuesday morning.
The distress call was received at 11:25 am, and within eight minutes, the crew arrived at the scene of the fire at House Number 14 597 Ihlosi Road.
According to Chief Fire Officer Mr Mhlangano Moyo, the house was fully ablaze, with the fire mainly concentrated in two rooms.
“The timely arrival and deployment of the crew successfully contained and restricted the fire from spreading to other rooms, supported by effective communication and coordination,” said Mr Moyo.
He said the brigade got one jet and a high-pressure hose reel with breathing apparatus stage one to contain the fire, whose suspected cause is an electrical fault in the bedroom.
He said the estimated value of the property was ZWG3.78million and property worth ZWG270 000 was destroyed by the inferno, while ZWG3.5 million worth of property was saved.
“The incident highlights the importance of regular fire safety inspections and maintenance of our homes. The community or residents are urged to take note that during the winter period, that’s where we want to warm ourselves and to use correct gadgets to prevent such incidents and also to ensure that we switch off our electrical gadgets soon after use or power failure situations,” said Mr Moyo.
