PEOPLE have started gathering at the Nkulumane Provincial Heroes Acre in Bulawayo ahead of the Heroes Day commemorations set for Monday.

The commemorations will be presided over by Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube.

Heroes Day is observed annually to honour and remember the country’s liberation war heroes and other national heroes who contributed to the attainment of Zimbabwe’s independence.

A total of 1 176 provincial heroes are laid to rest at the Nkulumane Provincial Heroes Acre, which remains an important site for commemorating the country’s liberation struggle.

President Mnangagwa will lead the nation in commemorating the fallen liberation war cadres at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.

Bulawayo has 15 national heroes who are buried at the Nkulumane shrine and Lady Stanley Cemetery.

The commemorations are expected to draw members of the public, war veterans, Government officials, traditional leaders and various stakeholders who will gather to pay tribute to the country’s fallen heroes and heroines.
