THINGS got steamy when a duo of South Africa’s hottest female DJs turned the joint into a furnace of bass, sweat and side-eye on the eve of Africa Day at a pub in Luveve.
The “Amapiano Heatwave” gig kicked off at 12 midnight, but by the time the first log drum hit, the pub was packed wall to wall with party lovers from Bulawayo and beyond.
Then the lights dropped. Out stepped Tiisetso Moncho and Nomfundo Khumalo in outfits that left little to the imagination, crop tops and cut-out shorts. Every move on the decks came with a hip roll, a hair whip and a smirk that had the crowd screaming.
Their bodies, clearly built in the gym and on the dance floor, were on full display as they worked the turntables like pros.
“They weren’t just DJing, they were putting on a show, and I’ve never seen decks played like that. My shirt was soaked in 10 minutes,” said Valentine Moyo, wiping sweat from his forehead
The women worked the crowd hard, jumping up from the booth to the tables to hype the front row and teasing the audience between tracks. One moment had the whole pub roaring when a DJ leaned into the mic and said, “Ladies, if you’re scared, hold your man tight! “
“Yoh, I had to pull my boyfriend closer. The way those girls were moving, I swear half the women here got jealous. But honestly, it was fire. I wish I could move like that, said Nomle. Another reveller, Mandla Dube, put it bluntly. “My wife kept turning around and checking me. But how can you not look? The performance was too polished, too hot. We need them back ASAP.”
For 90 minutes, the DJs mixed amapiano, gqom and kwaito into one non-stop sweat session. When they finally dropped the mic, the crowd erupted and promptly mobbed them. Instead of escaping to the back, the trio were swarmed by patrons jostling for selfies, autographs and hugs.
The organiser of the show, Brian Samuriwo, said the duet camped inside the bar until 3 am, way after their session, signing stuff and taking pics like they were fans themselves and they had to call extra security to whisk them out safely.
“The night was one of the busiest we’ve had all year. If these ladies come back, the joint will be on fire again. People are already asking for the date,” said Samuriwo
