BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe – Proceedings have officially commenced for the 2025 legal year, marking a historic first for Bulawayo as it hosts the main event. The occasion was highlighted by the arrival of Chief Justice Luke Malaba, who emphasised the significance of this development in line with the Government’s devolution policy.
This year’s opening ceremony saw the participation of judges, lawyers, and service chiefs among the delegates, all gathered to witness the Chief Justice deliver his keynote address. In his speech, Justice Malaba reflected on the operations of the country’s justice system over the past year and provided direction for the upcoming legal year.
“This is a historic moment for Bulawayo,” said Chief Justice Malaba, underscoring the importance of decentralising Government services. The ceremony included a ceremonial inspection of the quarter guard, which captivated local residents.
The theme for the 2025 legal year is “Building Public Confidence in the Judiciary through Stakeholder Participation.” Chief Justice Malaba stressed that the courts cannot deliver justice in isolation, highlighting the necessity for collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that justice is effectively served.
As the judiciary seeks to enhance public trust, Justice Malaba reaffirmed the commitment to engage with community partners, aiming to foster a justice system that is responsive and accountable to the populace’s needs.
