A 29-year-old Bulawayo man has been fined US$200 or one month in prison after being found in possession of four grams of marijuana.

Mkhokheli Mpofu from How Mine appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba, who convicted him of unlawful possession of dagga and ordered him to pay the fine through the Clerk of Court by October 30.

Prosecuting, Ms Josephine Gurazhira told the court that the offence occurred on September 30 around 6PM, when security guards at How Mine conducted a routine alcohol and drug test before Mpofu began his shift.

“The accused tested positive for drugs. A subsequent search led to the recovery of a sachet of marijuana from his pocket,” said Ms Gurazhira.

The matter was reported to Hillside Police Station, leading to Mpofu’s arrest. The recovered substance was later weighed at Bulawayo’s Main Post Office in Mpofu’s presence and confirmed to be four grams of marijuana, with an estimated street value of ZWG108.
