A BULAWAYO man has been sentenced to three years in prison for attempting to murder a fellow tenant in Tshabalala suburb.
Dumisani Khumalo (30) was convicted by the Bulawayo Magistrates Court following a full trial.
“Dumisani Khumalo from Bulawayo was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment
for attempted murder. He will serve an effective 16 months behind bars after 20 months of the sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour.
“On 2 September 2026, the offender had a misunderstanding with the young brother of Helman Sibanda, a tenant at a house in Tshabalala, Bulawayo. When Sibanda intervened, Khumalo picked up a hoe and struck him once on the forehead,” said the National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in a statement.
Khumalo was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
“The victim was taken to hospital and a medical report was used in court by
the State to prove how the offender’s actions were carried out with an intention to kill,” said NPAZ.
NPAZ warned that attempted murder is very serious crime and the authority will continue pushing for stiff sentences to those found on the wrong side of the law.
