A 21-year-old Bulawayo man who broke into a house and stole a television set worth US$300 has been jailed for an effective nine months.

Prince Sibanda of Gwabalanda was convicted on his own plea of guilty to unlawful entry and theft by Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Three months were suspended for three years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period, while another three months were suspended on condition he restitutes the complainant US$300. This left Sibanda with an effective nine-month jail term.

Prosecuting, Ms Cathrine Kuzu said the offence occurred in October when Sibanda went to a house in Magwegwe Extension.

“Upon arrival, he gained entry through a window and stole a 72-inch Hisense television belonging to Mbonisi Makore (30) before leaving unnoticed,” she told the court.

Police investigations later led to Sibanda’s arrest. The television was not recovered.
