A Bulawayo man was allegedly stabbed to death by a gang of five men near Makoni shopping centre in Pumula South suburb.
The incident occurred on 25 April shortly before midnight and has been confirmed by Bulawayo Deputy Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu.

“We urge members of the public to avoid walking late at night as they risk being robbed or murdered. We appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the two suspects who are on the run to report to the nearest police station,” said Assistant Inspector Ndlovu.

Sources close to case identified the deceased as Chilumbo Stillo of Emthunzini suburb in Bulawayo.

“Stillo had spent the day socialising with his friends at a drinking spot in the suburb. At around 11:45PM he left for his home with a friend. A group of men emerged from the darkness. Fearing for their lives, Stillo and his friend ran away, but the gang gave chase and caught up with Stillo near the intersection, where they severely assaulted him and stabbed him leading to his death after he bleeding profusely,” said the source.

In the early hours of 26 April, at around 2:30AM, a passing motorist discovered Stillo’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood at the intersection. Stillo had suffered stab wounds and there was a trail of blood at the scene. His body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for a post-mortem.

The matter was reported to the police. Detectives from Bulawayo Homicide Section activated their intelligence and carried out investigations leading to the arrest of three suspects — Nkazimulo Sibanda (23) of Lower Rangemore, Jethro Dube (25) of Emthunzini, and Andile Ngwenya (22) of Emthunzini. Two other suspects, only known as Goodluck and another unidentified man, remain at large.

Police recovered an Itel cellphone belonging to the deceased from the arrested suspects.
