What started as a bold ask of fate has grown into a rising Afro music journey for MJ Sings, who is set to release a new single titled Mwari this Friday.
The single, which will be released on all major music platforms, features international collaboration with Choujaa from Morocco and Ziddo from South Africa.
“It all started after Murphy Cubic, and I shared an exclusive Afro-house song that we had produced with Nitefreak. After some conversations, we realised that the synergy and the mutual vision were there and we have been moving together ever since,” said MJ Sings.
Signed under Afroholic Records, MJ Sings has continued working under the mentorship of Zimbabwean Afro-house producer Nitefreak.
“Mwari is basically a call or plea to God for divine intervention. I wrote it at a point in my life where I felt like He was silent and I needed an answer from Him. That same week, Ziddo sent parts of the beat and I wrote it down.
“We later sent it to Choujaa for him to add his touch. I intentionally wanted it to represent Zimbabwe by adding Shona lyrics instead of Ndebele lyrics because they can often be confused as Zulu,” said MJ Sings.
“I’m super excited to finally share this record with the world. It’s small steps like these that start the conversation about our inclusion as Zimbabwean Afro musicians in the global market,” he said.
