A BULAWAYO man has been arrested for allegedly stealing scrap metal and foam rubber worth US$2 520 from the Zupco depot in Kelvin North.
Muziwakhe Nyathi (55) appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga on Monday facing theft charges. He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to 31 July for sentencing.
The complainant, Zupco was represented in court by Ms Sylvia Kandiero (42), a security officer.
The prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete, said on 13 July at around 5.30 PM, Nyathi and two unidentified accomplices allegedly entered the ZUPCO premises through a damaged fence.
“While inside, they stole scrap metal and foam rubber. Security officers on duty spotted them and gave chase,” said Mr Dzimbanhete.
Nyathi was apprehended while attempting to flee and handed over to the police. The stolen property was recovered.
His two accomplices managed to escape and police have since launched a manhunt.
