ALL is set for this year’s provincial Independence Day celebrations, with final preparations now at an advanced stage ahead of the main event to be held at various venues across provinces tomorrow.

In Bulawayo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, is expected to read the President’s speech at the event, which is set to bring together residents from across the province in celebration of the country’s independence.

This year’s Uhuru celebrations will be held under the theme: “Zim@46 — Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030”, which is both reflective and forward-looking, deliberately linking the liberation legacy to Zimbabwe’s contemporary development ambitions.

President Mnangagwa will lead the national commemorations with a keynote address in Maphisa, Matobo District in Matabeleland South.

One of the highlights of the day in Bulawayo will be a football match featuring Chicken Inn FC and Bulawayo Chiefs FC, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Bulawayo provincial information officer, Mr Gration Mahachi, said preparations were progressing well, with stakeholders working around the clock to ensure a successful event.

“We are now putting final touches to the preparations and everything is in place for the celebrations. Various stakeholders have come on board and we are confident of a successful event,” he said.

“Transport will be available to take people to the stadium from the usual pickup points. There will be entertainment by local groups and learners.

“The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution will read the Presidential speech.”
Mr Mahachi urged residents to attend the celebrations in large numbers, saying the day presents an opportunity for communities to come together and reflect on the country’s journey.

“We encourage people from across the province to come in their numbers and be part of this important national event as we celebrate our independence and unity as a nation,” he said.

The annual event is expected to be marked by various activities celebrating the country’s liberation history, unity and continued development.

In Matabeleland North, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Richard Moyo, declared the province fully prepared to host the Provincial Independence Day celebrations in Hwange, with a dedicated children’s party scheduled for Friday.

He told Zimpapers that all logistics, including security, transport, and catering, have been finalised.
The main independence commemorations will take place on April 18, but Friday’s children’s party will set the tone.

“We are ready. The province is ready. Our focus is on our future leaders the children,” Minister Moyo said.
“Friday’s party will feature music, traditional cuisine, and fun activities. It is our way of instilling patriotism and ensuring that every child feels the joy of Uhuru.”

Minister Moyo urged parents and guardians to bring their children to the event, which starts at 9am. Traditional chiefs, Government officials, and local business leaders are expected to attend.

Minister Moyo also called upon residents to maintain peace and cleanliness ahead of the main celebrations.

“Let us all come together as one people to celebrate our hard-won freedom,” he said.
