Bulawayo police hunt robbers

POLICE are investigating three cases of unlawful entry and theft which occurred in Bulawayo in which unknown people broke into premises and stole property worth more than $2,200.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said one of the robberies occurred on March 19 at around 1PM. “A complainant locked his shop and left everything intact on March 19. On March 21 he discovered that some unknown persons had forcibly opened a window and went on to steal a safe that contained $1,600.

“In a related incident, unknown persons broke into butchery and stole a CCTV decoder. They also dragged a safe from the butchery but failed to open it,” he said.

Chief Supt Nyathi said on March 22, there was another incident in Nkulumane where various groceries were stolen.

“A shop owner who was doing routine checks on his premises discovered that the doors to a neighbouring shop were partially open. He made a report at Nkulumane Police Station. On attending the scene, police discovered that the accused persons had used an unknown object to forcibly open the doors. Various groceries were stolen,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Bulawayo man was robbed of his Alcatel cellphone and $613 at a service station in Sauerstown suburb by two men brandishing a gun.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to urge members of the public not to leave their premises unattended and to secure them at all times. They should also employ the services of reputable security guards and also engage other security systems such as alarms and CCTVs,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.

“We’re appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the culprits and anyone with information cam report to their nearest Police stations or contact National Complaints Desk on telephone numbers (04) 703 631”.

Chief Supt Nyathi reminded people to deposit their money in banks on a daily basis for safekeeping regardless of the amount.
