Bulawayo records 35.4 percent driving test pass rate

BULAWAYO Province recorded a 35.4 percent pass rate in driving tests from 4,292 candidates who sat for the Certificate of Competency, according to the latest second-quarter provincial statistics.

The figure places Bulawayo below the national average of 52.9 percent, indicating that less than four in every 10 candidates who took the test in the province managed to qualify.

Nationally, a total of 54,453 people wrote driving tests across all provinces, the second Quarter 2025: Transport Statistics Report by Zimstat shows.

“Of the 54,453 candidates who underwent certificate of competence test during 2nd quarter 2025, of which (52.9 percent) succeeded.

“Proportions of candidates who passed the certificate of competence test during 2nd quarter 2025 were less than fifty percent in all provinces except Mash East, Harare and Manicaland which recorded 67.6 percent, 66.3 percent and 50.1 percent respectively,” reads part of the report.

Harare Province recorded the highest pass rate at 66.3 percent from 21 093 candidates, followed closely by Mashonaland East with 67.6 percent from 5 135 candidates.

Manicaland has  (50.1 percent), Mashonaland Central (40.0 percent), Mashonaland West (41.7 percent), Matabeleland North (40.8 percent), Matabeleland South (37.1 percent), Masvingo (45.2 percent) and Midlands (34.6 percent).

The data shows that Mashonaland East had the best overall performance, surpassing all other regions, while Midlands recorded the lowest pass rate at 34.6 percent, marginally below Bulawayo.

The national driving test results provide a snapshot of driver preparedness and are a key indicator of road safety competence across Zimbabwe.
