The City of Bulawayo will conduct household and traffic surveys in the city’s eastern suburbs as it develops a new Local Development Plan (LDP) to guide coordinated development in the area.
The surveys, covering Glengarry, Woodlands, Selborne Park, Parklands, Killarney and Mahatshula, will run from today until 4 November, according to a notice issued by the Town Clerk’s office.
The exercise is being undertaken under Local Development Plan Number 5 – Eastern Suburbs, with the information expected to provide the council with a database for planning and development interventions.
Traffic surveys will run from 28 September to 17 October at eight key road intersections.
These include Cecil Avenue and Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road, Esigodini Road and Cecil Avenue, Harare Road and Cecil Avenue, Cecil Avenue and Coghlan Avenue, St Lukes Way and Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road, Bulawayo Drive and Harare Road, Woodville Park Road and Harare Road and Stanfrie Drive and Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.
Household surveys will then be conducted from 19 October to 4 November in Glengarry, Killarney, Sunninghill, Woodlands, Parklands, Selborne Park and Mahatshula.The council said the information gathered would be used to formulate an LDP in terms of Section 17 of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act [Chapter 29:12].
The plan is expected to provide a framework for harmonious and well-coordinated development within the study area, the council added.
The surveys come as Bulawayo seeks to improve urban planning and align infrastructure and development with the changing needs of its growing population.
