Walter Ebineng was elected chairman and he will be deputised by Cynthia Marisamhuka. Lysias Charumbira will be the secretary general while Prosper Jaya was elected technical director and Eberhart Tapera, Akim Tapfumanei, Akim Malaba, Gezelina Moyo, George Mukusha and Davidzo Jima will be the committee members.
Speaking at the launch Jaya said the development was a welcome and long overdue move that was going to see Bulawayo returning to the top in table tennis.
“We are happy that we now have proper structures in place and we are looking at table tennis’ growth after it had somewhat faltered after Tanzanian mentor Villu Mungilwa returned to his native country. He had produced champions like Munyaradzi Husvu, Brendeline Siphuma, Farai and Onai Sayi.
“After this we expect the sport to grow in leaps and bounds and have the province reclaiming its top spot on the national scale,” he said.
The day also saw the formation of the Spinmasters Academy in Bulawayo with Drill Hall selected as its centre. Two stag tables, five bats and several balls were given to the province to kick-start the project.
The Spinmasters also ran a tournament at Milton High School on the same day which was graced by players from Botswana, Harare and Mutare as well as Bulawayo.
