THE search for Zimbabwe’s next generation of football stars begins in earnest today at White City Stadium, where the national Under-17 trials are expected to draw some of the most promising teenage talent from across Bulawayo.

It’s more than just a trial. It’s the first spark in Zimbabwe’s bid to build a side capable of lifting the 2025 Cosafa Under-17 Championship title, on home soil.

Zifa Bulawayo Province chairman Francis Ntutha confirmed that it was all systems go for the day-long event, which kicks off at 9am at the White City B Arena.

“We’ve worked tirelessly to ensure everything is ready,” Ntutha said. “This is the first crucial step in building a strong, competitive team that can represent Zimbabwe with pride.”

Clubs and schools in and around Bulawayo were invited to send their best players born between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2010.

The target: to unearth raw talent with the discipline, skill, and football intelligence to form the backbone of a formidable Under-17 squad.
Ntutha called on all stakeholders to seize the moment.

“Clubs and schools should not let this opportunity go to waste,” he said.

“We want to field a strong side, one that not only competes, but has the potential to clinch the title as hosts. It starts with spotting the right talent and nurturing it.”

With just two months to go before the regional tournament kicks off, today’s trials could prove to be the launchpad for future stars.

Provincial selectors and national scouts will be keeping a close eye on performances, and for the boys stepping onto that field, the dream is clear: wear the green and gold and represent Zimbabwe on the big stage.
