A 19-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo teenager has appeared in court for allegedly stabbing a man who was trying to break up a fight.
Khumbulani Nkomo of Upper Rangemore, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga on Tuesday facing an attempted murder charge.
He was remanded out of custody to 4 August on US$30 bail pending the release of a medical report.
As part of his bail conditions, Nkomo was ordered to continue residing at his given address and not interfere with any State witnesses until the case is finalised.
The prosecutor Ms Audrey Kufandikanwe told the court that the incident occurred on 6 July around 4PM along Joshua Housing Trust Road in Upper Rangemore.
“Nkomo and Blessing Chikerema had a misunderstanding which escalated into a fistfight. The complainant, Roy Chitsungo (20), saw them fighting and tried to intervene,” said Ms Kufandikanwe.
She said Nkomo reacted violently, drew an Okapi knife and stabbed Chitsungo once on the head and once on the left cheek.
Chitsungo sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical treatment.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Nkomo’s arrest.
